Tom’s Thumb

Mar 08 2019

First time up to Toms Thumb in the McDowell Preserve, may look like just a rock from the trailhead, but it’s much much bigger once your up there! Gateway Trailhead through Bell Pass and Up East End made a beautiful 12-mile loop. It’s a whole different world up there with giant boulders scattered all over, […]

As of yesterday, Sycamore Creek in the Tonto National Forest is still running strong. Lots of off-road traffic this weekend, but that didn’t stop us from parking creek side and enjoying the outdoors while we had lunch. Location: Sycamore Creek, Tonto National Forest, Arizona

Had a great hike in the Mcdowell Sonoran Preserve yesterday. You can still see snow on the Four Peaks, and it was a bonus to see a little more color than usual. Starting at the Gateway trailhead, continuing through the Bell Pass Trail and coming back via Windgate Pass makes a great 9 mile loop. […]

Took a little afternoon drive out to the Sycamore Creek OHV area in the Tonto National Forest. It’s fun to actually see water in these usually dry Arizona creek beds. The weekend before brought snow to areas of the desert that rarely see it, so I’m sure there are a number creeks flowing this week. […]

Enjoying our souvenirs from our Grand Canyon trip last weekend. In other news, the trails have been reopened at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale. They were closed after last weeks snow/rain. This new souvenir may inspire a hike later today… Location: Scottsdale, Arizona

Was hoping for an up close view of the snow on the Four Peaks yesterday, but the road is closed part way up. Still turned out to be a nice little drive, its fun to actually see running water in the usually dry creek beds. Location: Four Peaks Wilderness, Tonto National Forest, Arizona

Finally found time to look through pictures of last weekends adventure. We braved the weather and spent the weekend up at Grand Canyon National Park. As always, was a great trip! Location: Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Had a nice Sunday morning hike at Papago Park this weekend. We are relatively new to the area and I do like all of the mountain parks and hiking/running/biking options right within the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro area. There is a handy back way to access the park on McDowell Road. Location: Papago Park, Arizona

Cycling in Scottsdale

Feb 15 2019

Love all the recreational trails that run right through Scottsdale, AZ. Great for getting outside during the week when you don’t have time to hit the back country. Finally found a use for my old Forerunner with a broken band as well. Location: Scottsdale, Arizona

It’s a bummer living in the city, but from the Phoenix metro it’s not a long drive before your out in the wilderness, in this case the Four Peaks Wilderness Area in the Tonto National Forest. Location: Four Peaks Wilderness, Tonto National Forest, Arizona
